Dr. Xiaoling Peng received her bachelor's degree from the school of mathematics of Sichuan University. From 2001 to 2005, she was a doctoral student in a joint program of Sichuan University and Hong Kong Baptist University, studing data mining under the guidance of Professor Kai-tai Fang (Doctor of science, 2005). Dr. Xiaoling Peng has worked as a visiting scholar in the Croucher Institute for of Environmental Sciences at Hong Kong Baptist University, the State Key Laboratory of marine pollution at City University of Hong Kong, and the Department of Biostatistics at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Xiaoling Peng is engaged in various data mining methods, variable selection, environmental data analysis and modeling, medical signal data analysis, experimental design, etc., and has published nearly 20 research papers in international journals. The statistics textbook "Modern Elementary Statistics" compiled by Professor Kai-tai Fang and Dr. Peng has been used as the textbook in more than ten universities. She has supervised over and participated in many research projects such as National Natural Science Foundation of China, Guangdong Natural Science Foundation. In April 2007, Dr. Peng joined the Statistics programme of UIC from the Department of mathematics of Shanghai Jiaotong University.
