Biography

Prof. Zhang is a Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas, USA. He was a Visiting Associate Professor (Jan. – Aug. 2000), Associate Professor (Sep. 2000 – Aug. 2005, tenured in Sep. 2002), Full Professor (Sep. 2005 - May 2021) at UT-Dallas. He was also a Fulbright Distinguished Chair at Charles University, Czech Republic (Sep. 2019 – Jan. 2020), and an ACM Distinguished Speaker (2018-2021). Zhang received his B.Eng. in Computer Engineering from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China, in Feb. 1982; Ph.D. from University of Brighton, UK, in Dec. 1990; and Executive MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas in May 2011. He was a CAD Software Engineer at the East-China Research Institute of Computer Technology, Shanghai, in early 80s, and then held academic positions in the UK (Jan. 1986 - Aug. 1991) and Australia (Sep. 1991 – Jan. 2000). He has supervised and graduated over 20 Ph.D. students, and published 8 books and over 100 journal papers.

Zhang is on the Editorial Boards of  Journal of Visual Language and Computing, International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, The Visual Computer, Journal of Big Data,  Visual Computing for Industry, Biomedicine and Art, and 《软件学报》.
